Krosswind Computer ("the App") is a flight-planning and flight-computer application published by Adroited LLC on behalf of Krosswind Aviation LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the App handles and how. The App is designed to be offline-first: the information you enter stays on your device unless you deliberately use a feature that connects to the internet.
Aircraft profiles, weight & balance loadouts, routes and nav logs, logbook entries, aircraft ownership and maintenance records, equipment lists, saved airports, checklists, personal minimums, and stored documents are saved locally in the App's private storage on your device. We do not have a user-account system, and this data is not transmitted to us or to any third party as part of normal use. Deleting the App removes this data.
If you use features such as Nearest Airport, Diversion, or Sun/Moon times, the App requests your device location to perform on-device calculations (for example, finding nearby airports or computing local sunrise/sunset). Your location is used only on the device for these calculations and is not sent to our servers or shared with anyone. You can decline or revoke the location permission in your device settings; the affected features will simply be unavailable.
Some features fetch public reference data over the internet. When you use them, only the minimum request needed is sent:
Locally stored data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. Documents you submit for OCR are processed to return text; associated image data is retained only as long as needed to provide the feature and for reasonable operational/security purposes, then deleted. Issue reports you submit are retained as needed to resolve the reported problem.
Network requests use encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect data handled by our servers.
The App is intended for pilots and aviation enthusiasts and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
You control what the App transmits: decline the location permission, avoid the internet-connected features, and only submit documents or reports you intend to send. You can clear all local data by uninstalling the App.
Most of your data never leaves your device, so uninstalling the App (or clearing its storage in your device settings) permanently deletes your aircraft, weight & balance, routes, logbook, documents, and all other locally stored information.
For the limited data that may be transmitted off the device — documents you submit for text extraction (OCR) and any issue reports you send us — you can request deletion at any time by emailing privacy@krosswindaviation.com with the subject "Data deletion request". We will delete the associated data within 30 days. Because the App has no user accounts, please send the request from, or reference, the email you used to contact us so we can locate the data.
If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, the GDPR and UK GDPR give you rights over personal data relating to you. The data controller is Krosswind Aviation LLC, contactable at privacy@krosswindaviation.com.
Because the App has no user accounts and keeps your flying data on your device, most of what you create is never personal data in our hands at all. The limited data we do receive is described in section 3, and we rely on these legal bases:
You have the right to request access to that data, rectification of it, erasure of it, restriction of or objection to its processing, and portability of it. To exercise any of these, email privacy@krosswindaviation.com; section 9 describes how deletion works in practice. We do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling.
Our servers are in the United States, so the data described in section 3 is transferred there. We keep such transfers to the minimum described above and retain the data only as long as set out in section 5.
If you believe we have handled your data improperly, you may complain to your national data protection authority; in the United Kingdom this is the Information Commissioner’s Office.
We may update this policy as the App evolves. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date on this page.
